Tomato Rice

Preparation:

  • Clean & wash rice. Boil 5-6 cups water in a large pan.
  • Add rice. Cook till Done.
  • Strain the rice in a colander (big metal strainer). Keep aside to cool by spreading the rice in a big tray.
  • Heat oil in a karahi. Reduce Flame.
  • Add sarson & dal. Cook on very low flame till dal changes color. Add curry leaves & onions.
  • Fry till onions turn light brown.
  • Add tomato puree. Add haldi, salt & chili powder.
  • Cook on low flame till the dal turns soft & the tomatoes turn absolutely dry and oils separate.
  • Add hing powder. Separate the rice grains with a fork & add to the tomatoes, Stir carefully till well mixed.
  • Save hot.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup uncooked basmati rice
  • 4 small tomatoes – ground to puree in a mixer
  • 2-3 onions – chopped
  • 1/4 tsp haldi
  • 1*1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp hing powder
  • 3 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp sarson (mustered seeds)
  • 1 tsp channe ki daal
